Barbara Ruhs

Barbara Ruhs MS RDN is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and owner of Neighborhood Nutrition LLC, a
consulting firm focused on providing solutions to help food companies and supermarkets improve consumer health & wellness. She’s a former supermarket dietitian and has run a successful business for 17 years. A leader in the field of nutrition, her mission is to help people by impacting the way food is produced, marketed and sold. She’s a strong advocate for supermarket dietitians and believes the retail food industry has the greatest potential to impact public health.

Barb launched an annual Supermarket Dietitian Symposium in 2010 in partnership with Oldways, a non-profit organization committed to promoting health and nutrition. This annual event draws leaders from the top supermarkets and provides a one-of-a-kind networking and educational forum for a unique audience of retail professionals that influence millions of customers each week.

A native of New York, Barb spent the majority of her career on the east coast prior to moving to Arizona in 2008. She started her career in public health working for USDA’s Child Nutrition Programs in Boston. She worked as a nutritionist for Harvard University and ran a successful private-practice with a team of dietitians based in Cambridge, MA.

Barbara graduated from Cornell University with a B.S. in Nutrition and Dietetics and M.S. in Nutrition from Boston University. A former collegiate tennis player, she enjoys an active lifestyle. She competed in the 2013 US Tennis Association National’s. She’s an avid cyclist, animal-lover, and enthusiastic world traveler.
