Sandra Arévalo

Sandra Arévalo currently serves as Coordinator of Wellness Programs at Institute For Family Health after being Director of Nutrition Services and Co-Director of The Starting Right Initiative and Coordinator of Diabetes Management Programs at Community Pediatrics, a program of the Montefiore Hospital and The Children’s Health Fund.

Working as a private consultant and spokesperson has helped her expand her horizons to continue her mission and commitment to provide health care to the most underserved families in NY and abroad. Her Health & Fitness Group received the Award of Excellence from NEPDPG for Best Nutrition Education Program in 2012. In 2013 she received the Award of Excellence from the National Hispanic Medical Association for her leadership in nutrition services among Latinos. In 2014 she was nominated to receive the Montefiore President’s Award for Service Excellence and the Preceptor of The Year award from the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics.

She completed her Dietetic Internship and received her Master’s in Public Health from Hunter College. She has served as chair of the NYC Nutrition Education Network, Co-Chair for the Cultural Foods Group of the Greater New York Dietetic Association and is Past Chair of LAHIDAN, the interest group of the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics committed to improving the nutrition of Latinos in the US. Her previous educational and research work on obesity prevention and diabetes have been featured in national and international TV and printed media, peer reviewed journals and presented at various national conferences.
